However, that doesn’t have to be the case! Join this session to see how you can apply an “Amazing Race” style activity, using Google My Maps and Forms, to any subject area, with examples of how it has been used with students. Power up Pedagogy with Screencasting via Screencastify
Screencasting is not a new concept nor was it introduced with the cloud.  Teachers have been screencasting for years yet so many have never considered doing it.   With the increased adoption of student-centered learning, Universal Design for Learning, personalized learning, flipped learning, blended learning, screencasting skills are not optional.

Why would you learn about screencasts?
  • Engage learners with video
  • Provide alternative means of learning
  • Provide accommodations
  • Give students a voice and choice
  • Flip your classroom with a quick video that you can use over an over again
  • Provide instruction when you are not in class or available for individual coaching
  • Screencasts can provide learners a student-centered and engaging learning experience in both distance and traditional learning settings.
  • Align your instruction with objectives, goals, and standards with your own direction
  • Provide fast formative feedback (your voice and screen works better than a pen any day!)
In this session you will learn:
  • Specific ways to use screencasting with examples and directions
  • Tools for screencasting
  • How to create a screencast with Screencastify
  • How to share your screencast via Drive, YouTube, Sites, Forms, or Classroom!
This session will help those NEW to Screencasting and Screencastify but seasoned screencasters may get some good ideas to go further! :)

Must Have Literacy & Math Tools for G SUite
G Suite for Education puts powerful productivity and collaboration tools into the hands of students and teachers alike, no matter where they are or what type of device they’re using. And the availability of apps, extensions and add-ons provides students with even more support, personalization and means of engagement in their learning. But with thousands of these third party tools to choose from, it can be difficult to know which ones will truly support the needs of all your students.
This hands-on session will explore several of Texthelp’s suite of Google apps and extensions, including Read&Write and EquatIO, which can support students in their reading, writing, math and more. Participants will get to see these tools in action, with particular emphasis on how they can benefit all types of learners and support a UDL framework in the classroom.

Formulating Assessments with Google Forms
In 2016 Google announced that a new “Quiz” feature had been added to Google Forms. Since then, the integration of this tool has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the app in education. Then, in late 2017 Google opened the door for grades from a Google Forms Quiz to be seamlessly imported into Google Classroom assignments. Can you say, “Mind Blown?” In this hands-on session we will explore the Forms quiz feature in detail including point values, automatic feedback, and the different ways teachers can grade student responses. We will then investigate how all of this integrates with Google Classroom. And yes, there may be a quiz at the end.

Creating with Chromebooks
Imagination and creativity play a vital role in a developing brain, but our current emphasis on standardized testing has squeezed creativity into one wing of the building. The traditional classroom shouldn’t be the place where we slowly kill children’s creativity. Instead, we should be inviting it.  This session will attempt to answer the question How can I use the Chromebooks as a creative tool? Bring a Chromebook (or other device) so we can stretch our own creative legs, which we will do!  This session is appropriate for any instructional level, grades 3-12.  Attendees will make their own quick creation that they can tweet if they like.  They can also use their device to explore each of the applications and sites we discuss.
Attendees will:
  • Identify multiple ways to invite students to think and act creatively
  • Reinforce their belief in the usefulness of creativity in schools
  • Feel inspired to make a creative endeavor and to rethink their curriculum to include more creative tasks

Managing Email Tsunami with G Mail's Hidden Features and AI Updates
Email is becoming increasingly unmanageable!

There are many 'magical tricks' waiting for you to apply to gMail to make it more manageable and ensure you don't miss those important messages.
  • Inbox Types ~ there are two inbox types I recommend.  I'll show you them and tell you when each one fits best.
  • Themes ~ Changing your theme now and then can lift your spirits.
  • Labels ~ if you like to organize your mail you can create labels.
  • Filters
    • Apply Label on specific incoming mail ~ I've got a green label called 'Paychek & I've got a blue one called 'Mom' so all the messages from my mom are 'blue' and always collected in one 'folder.'    Once you know how to do this it can really help you identify important messages in your inbox and it is automatically done for you if you set up a FILTER.
    • Customized Inboxes ~ automatically apply a label and 'archive' to create custom/priority inboxes for mail such as 'payroll stubs', the tech updates; the school discussion forum, etc'
    • Automatically 'delete' unwanted incoming mail - if you have thousands of unread messages and you want to get rid of all of the 'newsletters, promotions' etc all at once from a particular sender you can search and delete.  However, you can run a filter to detect those incoming and auto delete them and also delete all matching messages at the same time.   This can clean your inbox so fast!
Great for beginners, those never properly introduced to Gmail and anyone who desires 'inbox zero.'

It's All about Student Choice & Voice
Students are often forgotten when it comes to bringing together stakeholders to talk about education. By giving students a choice in how they learn and present their learning, we can tap into their passions which often produce higher quality work. A student showcasing their skills on something that matters to them, will not only give them access to their voice, but allow them to share that with confidence to their audience. https://sites.google.com/yorkschools.org/gafepd/presentations/student-choice-voice

Google Classroom BEYOND THE BASICS
Google Classroom has come a long way since its introduction in 2014, and Google has worked hard to infuse the app with tools and connect to other Google services based on feedback from educators like YOU! In this session we will cover best practices for transitioning between terms with archiving classes, retiring Classroom calendars, and cleaning up the Classroom folder inside of Drive. Then we will dive into some of the changes that have recently come to Classroom including the Gradebook tab and the Classroom grading tool.
